Newcastle fans are pretty confident of securing promotion and here in the Transfer Tavern they are already passing around pieces of paper and exchanging text messages discussing the players they want to see at the club should they make the leap to the big time.
The Magpies sit atop the Championship on goal difference despite their weekend loss to Fulham and hold a six-point advantage over Huddersfield in third with nine games to go.
Even though they have somewhat wobbled, immediate promotion back to the Premier League looks to be on the cards and reports from the Sunday People (page 64, below) claim that Wylan Cyprien is already being eyed.
The Nice midfielder has been in excellent for the high-flying Ligue 1 side, with his nine goals and three assists from central midfield helping them into a three-horse race for the title along with Paris Saint-Germain and shock leaders Monaco.
The 22-year-old is a versatile player and his ability to fill in on either flank or as a No.10 may be of use to Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park.
Newcastle have a deep squad, so Cyprien’s potential arrival may mean that some of the current options on Tyneside will have to be moved on.
Is potential Cyprien deal a hint Newcastle will repeat their past transfer mistakes this summer?
