The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have concerns over the potential signing of Alvaro Morata, and it appears as though the Blues brass does too – though for a completely different reason…
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are holding off on making a move for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata because they are concerned that their interest could be used as leverage for Los Blancos to secure a deal for either Eden Hazard or Thibaut Courtois.
Certainly, that logic would make sense. If Real Madrid realise the extent of Chelsea’s interest, they could simply refuse to sell unless a deal for Hazard or Courtois is included in some way – leaving the Blues in a tough spot.
The Chelsea fans in the pub think that this could be a blessing in disguise for the Blues. They don’t think that Morata is not the sort of player that Chelsea should be going after this summer, with a more lethal, prolific forward being demanded instead.
That being said, it is hard to argue that Morata is a top player. Possessing far more technical ability than Diego Costa, whilst Morata’s goalscoring record isn’t quite as good, the Spaniard is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is a technical magician – leaving our landlord dreaming of a partnership between him and Hazard.
It is going to be a summer of change at Stamford Bridge, though the Blues will need to ensure victory in the Premier League title race first.
