Antonio Rudiger could become part of Frank Lampard's ruthless upheaval this summer in his bid to completely revamp his squad.

The Blues boss is building a team fit for Premier League glory and isn't hesitating before throwing some senior figures on the chopping block. The German defender could be one of those players as Liverpool are reportedly considering making a move for him, according to Mundo Deportivo (via football.london).

Chelsea finished in a respectful fourth place in the Premier League last season, but the time has come again for the West Londoners to regain their 'winners' status. Lampard looks like he could recreate the prime years under the reign of Jose Mourinho.

He has already welcomed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to the club, with major target Kai Havertz also close to signing from Bayer Leverkusen.

Defence has been a problematic area for Lampard recently, with Kepa Arrizabalaga amongst those to raise serious questions about his future. Although Rudiger may be a man the club are keen to keep hold of, he is yet to sign a contract extension and his current deal only lasts until 2022.

The German international has also had a tough season with injuries, missing a total of 18 games this term with a groin injury (via Transfermarkt).

Rudiger's injury problems don't stop there either. He was out for six matches last season after undergoing knee surgery and had ongoing physical problems during his time with Roma.

Because of this, Lampard may feel the smart option is to cut his losses whilst Rudiger still has some value over his head. His current Transfermarkt value is £36million.

Liverpool have recently sold back-up centre-half Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg and will be looking for another defender to strengthen their squad. As newly-crowned Premier League champions, they won't want to revert back to days of a leaky defence.

If the Reds are keen on signing the 27-year-old, Chelsea may opt to cash in and use the funds towards another of their big money transfer targets.
