According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Talksport) Napoli will not be entering any negotiations in the near future for their defender, and Chelsea target, Kalidou Koulibaly.
The news has come as a blow to our Blues fans here in the Transfer Tavern who, despite seeing their club go on a run of clean-sheets earlier this season, would still like some added quality to their defence.
They feel that despite the performances of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta since Antonio Conte switched his team to a back three, further options are needed to encourage competition for places.
Certainly, then, Koulibaly would have helped create such an environment at the club but it appears his current employers have told any potential suitors to not bother wasting their time.
The report refers to the fact that the Naples side rejected a £51 million bid in the summer from the Stamford Bridge outfit and now it looks as though the Blues will have to sign someone else if they still want another centre-half.
They are currently top of the Premier League table after beating Spurs at the weekend, though the match did see their run of clean-sheets come to an end via Christian Eriksen.
