Chelsea closely monitoring “powerful” 17-goal forward as potential replacement for Liam Delap

Chelsea’s impressive momentum under Liam Rosenior continued on Friday night with a dominant 4-0 victory over Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round — a particularly satisfying result given Rosenior’s previous connection to the Yorkshire club.

Pedro Neto stole the headlines with a hat-trick, while Estevao also found the net in a commanding attacking display.

Liam Delap contributed two assists on the night, but despite that bright showing, the summer signing has struggled to make a consistent impact in the Premier League, managing just one league goal so far.

With long-term attacking firepower still a priority, reports suggest Chelsea are already assessing alternative options ahead of the summer window.

Chelsea Monitoring Igor Thiago

Chelsea are understood to remain interested in Brentford striker Igor Thiago, even after the Brazilian committed his future to the Bees with a new long-term contract.

Thiago has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, netting 17 goals in 26 appearances and emerging as one of the closest challengers to Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race. His physical presence and clinical finishing have transformed Brentford’s frontline.

The 24-year-old recently signed an extension that runs until 2031, with the option of an additional year — a move designed to secure his value and strengthen Brentford’s negotiating position. However, according to TEAMtalk, Chelsea continue to monitor the situation closely as they evaluate striking reinforcements.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has previously described Thiago as “powerful,” a trait that aligns with Chelsea’s desire for a dynamic, high-upside centre-forward who has already proven himself at the highest level but still has room to develop further.

While Brentford will feel confident after tying him down to fresh terms, recent history shows they are willing to sell key assets for the right price. A new contract does not eliminate transfer interest — it simply ensures the club remain firmly in control of any potential bidding process.

With Delap yet to fully establish himself as Chelsea’s long-term solution up front, the Blues’ interest in Thiago signals proactive planning. His goal return, physical profile and age make him an appealing candidate, though prising him away from Brentford will likely require a substantial offer.

If Chelsea are serious about upgrading their attacking options, this could be one of the marquee pursuits of their summer window.
