The Daily Mail have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they allege that Jose Mourinho wants to bring a £25 million rated forward to Stamford Bridge with him.
The manager has all but confirmed he will be taking the vacant job at his former club next season and it had been thought that Edinson Cavani was top of his wanted list. Now with the Napoli forward seemingly off to Manchester City in a swap deal which will also involve Edin Dzeko, it seems that Mario Gomez is the forward that Mourinho has turned his attentions to.
The Bayern Munich forward is exactly the mould of forward that Mourinho loves – strong, physical and quick and given that Pep Guardiola has identified the player as someone who can be allowed to leave the club, Chelsea feel at the right price they are more than able to land the player.
Gomez himself is concerned over the imminent arrival of Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski and should he fall even further down the pecking order, this would become more than a passing concern for the player who expects to be one of the first names down on the team sheet each and every weekend.
Mourinho has a host of other targets he wants to bring to Stamford Bridge with him, including a return for Michael Essien and also bringing Thibaut Courtois back from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
Will Mourinho really move for Gomez and is he still worth as much as £25 million? Rate this rumour below.
