Claims from talkSPORT have caused Manchester City and Chelsea fans to put down their pints this evening.

The publication has news that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi is on the brink of signing a new deal with Laurent Blanc’s side.

The 26-year-old has been strongly linked with a summer switch to the Premier League, with his services expected to be available on a free transfer as his contract at the Parc Des Princes expires.

However the French midfielder has enjoyed something of a revival in form for the Ligue 1 champions, and made headlines on Tuesday when he netted first during his side’s impressive 4-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, before laying on the second for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

This has reportedly brought about a stronger offer from the French club who want to keep hold of the former Saint-Etienne man and that could leave a host of Premier League having to look at other possible targets.

French reports suggest that Matuidi will pen a new deal that keeps him at the club until June 2018 and will bring his yearly salary close to £5 million.
