Chelsea’s midfield depth is one of the strongest in the Premier League, but it may also force some difficult decisions this summer.
Enzo Fernández and Moisés Caicedo remain key figures, while Andrey Santos has continued to grow in importance since Liam Rosenior’s arrival.
Beyond that, the Blues have several additional options, including Roméo Lavia — who has recently returned from injury — as well as Dário Essugo and even Reece James, who can step into midfield when required.
With so many players competing for minutes, Chelsea could now be willing to part ways with one of their stars.
Chelsea Open to Lavia Sale
Chelsea are “seriously considering” offers for Roméo Lavia ahead of the summer transfer window, according to transfer reporter Krrish.
Concerns over the midfielder’s long-term fitness have reportedly grown within the club, with his injury record becoming a significant talking point behind the scenes. After multiple setbacks since arriving from Southampton in 2023, doubts have emerged about whether he can consistently stay available.
As a result, Chelsea are said to be open to selling Lavia, with a valuation of around £42 million being discussed internally. While no formal negotiations with other clubs have taken place yet, the situation is evolving and could gather pace in the coming weeks.
Lavia — once described as “one of the best midfielders” by former manager Enzo Maresca — arrived with huge expectations, but persistent fitness issues have prevented him from fully delivering on that promise so far.
Despite his undeniable talent, Lavia’s future at Stamford Bridge now appears uncertain. With Chelsea weighing up reliability as well as quality, this summer could prove decisive in determining whether he remains part of their long-term plans or becomes a high-profile departure.
