Chelsea: Victor Moses eyeing up a return to Chelsea

Victor Moses is reportedly eyeing a move back to Chelsea, according to Fanatik via Sport Witness.

The 28-year-old initially joined the Turkish giants in January on an 18-month loan deal, and has gone on to score five goals and register two assists for the club, per Transfermarkt.

Moses featured for Fenerbahce on the opening day of the campaign, scoring in a 5-0 win over Gaziantepspor, but hasn’t featured since injuring his thigh. The Nigerian has missed the club’s last six league games and a date for his return has yet to be confirmed by the club.

The report says that Blues boss Frank Lampard is keen on the idea of Moses returning to Stamford Bridge in January – six months before his loan deal is due to finish – while Fenerbahce are yet to comment on the matter.

Moses’s career at Chelsea has been something of a rollercoaster. The African winger initially struggled to break in the side and spent several loan spells away from the club – to the likes of West Ham, Stoke and Liverpool – before becoming a mainstay in Antonio Conte’s title-winning side in 2016-17, successfully converted to a wing-back by the Italian during his time in charge of the west Londoners.

Since Conte left, though, Moses has fallen back out of the team and it now looks unclear whether or not he has a future at Stamford Bridge, with his current contract set to expire in 2021.

With the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James at right-back, alongside Willian, Pedro, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi in wide midfield, it’s difficult to see where Moses slots into this current Chelsea side.

Frank Lampard may view the 28-year-old as a useful squad player and wish to recall him from his loan spell prematurely, though with the player now approaching 30, he could opt to sign a much younger replacement when the transfer ban is lifted, which would be fitting with the rest of his current squad and see Moses slip even further down the pecking order.
