Now, reports from Russia outlet Sport Express suggest the Dutchman could be offered a rather surprise exit route in January.
Spartak Moscow are reportedly weighing up a move to bring the Oranje international to the Russia capital, preferably on loan until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Everton after failing to live up to the sort of potential he showed at PSV Eindhoven, performances that tempted United into spending £25m on him in January 2015.
However, those behind the scenes in the Russian capital are thought to hope the presence of his international teammate, Quincy Promes, in their team could be enough to tempt Depay to make a move.
