West Ham supporters have been slightly deflated in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side produce a defiant performance against Manchester City on Sunday, but ultimately go down 2-1 to the Premier League leaders.
David Moyes’ men went into their clash against the Citizens having failed to win any of their preceding seven league games, yet took a deserved lead at the Etihad Stadium thanks to Angelo Ogbonna’s 44th minute header. However, they were to be denied a third victory of the campaign as goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva completed the turnaround for Pep Guardiola’s side, thus maintaining their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League, while keeping the Hammers firmly lodged inside the division’s bottom three.
Consequently, there have been many despondent Hammers fans in the Tavern this week, many of whom were reasonably satisfied with their team’s efforts in the North West at the weekend, but ultimately bemoaned another defeat in what has been a woeful start to the campaign.
Nonetheless, there was a few bright sparks for the East London outfit on Sunday, namely the performance of goalkeeper Adrian, who replaced the ineligible Joe Hart between the sticks and went on to produce several key saves to keep Moyes’ side in the game.
And reports suggest that manager Moyes is considering keeping faith with the 30-year-old for the visit of champions Chelsea on Saturday, which could leave Hart facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium ahead of the World Cup in Russia at the end of the campaign.
And news of Moyes’ possible big selection has stimulated quite a response from Hammers fans on Twitter, many of whom are backing the Scotsman to indeed make such decision…
I don’t think it’s a case of dropping Joe Hart but Adrian’s performance v City deserves the start
