Conte has to pick this 25-year-old to start for Chelsea against Arsenal – agreed?

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern thought that the Blues were near perfect against Qarabag…

Every player picked by Antonio Conte put in a shift, and the dominant 6-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of what was a fantastic performance from the Blues.

Life as an English football fan is relentless, though, and no sooner had the final whistle been blown were thoughts beginning to turn to the Blues’ clash with Arsenal at the weekend. It’ll be a tough game for Conte, but the performance in the Champions League will have given him confidence leading into the game.

It’ll also give him something to think about, in that whilst Davide Zppacosta likely wasn’t a candidate to start against the Gunners, he most certainly is now – and our landlord thinks that it might be time for Victor Moses to step aside.

Antonio Conte will have been looking for the Italian to make an impact on his debut, but he did more than just that. He was arguably the best player on the pitch, and a stunning goal was the icing on the cake. His entire performance was fantastic, offering a defensive energy that has not be seen at Stamford Bridge for a while.

Victor Moses has done well during his stint, but it’s often clear that he is a square peg in a round hole. He lacks the defensive quality that Zappacosta brings, whilst his crossing also leaves a lot to be desired. He is, of course, a winger by trade – and Zappacosta is as close as Conte is going to find in his search for the perfect fit in his dynamic 3-5-2 formation.

Arsenal will pose a threat going forward, whilst quick breaks will be a key tactic if Chelsea want to come out on top. Zappacosta provides quality in both of these areas, with his goal against Qarabag coming in the form of a quick counteract set up by him.

It will be a bold decision from the manager to drop Moses so quickly, but Zappacosta deserves it. Moses also deserves the chance to come back into the side and prove his worth, but he may have to wait for another chance now.
