‘Cough up the cash Kroenke’ - Arsenal fans in disbelief over summer reports

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story from BBC Sport that claims the club’s transfer targets have been discussed with the interviewees for the Arsenal job and that the pre-sales budget is just £50 million. The fans have been reacting to that figure, which they believe to be nowhere near enough considering the financial power that their rivals possess.

Arsenal are entering uncharted waters as they approach next season. The club are drawing a close to the Arsene Wenger era after 22 years at the club where he’s the Premier League three times and the FA Cup seven times and whilst it’ll be tough for the fans and players to adjust to life without Wenger, it had to happen at some point. The Gunners would have been hoping that when Wenger does depart, the new man has adequate funds to see him settle into the job with signings.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case, with the club making just £50 million available to the new manager who is looking likely to be former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta. The Spaniard will have his work cut out for him if he’s to turn the Arsenal backline around on such a tight budget, although if he can generate enough funds from the sale of other senior players then he may be able to bring in the right personnel and build the club in his image.
