After a historic 2024–25 campaign that saw Crystal Palace lift the FA Cup and achieve a record Premier League points tally, the club’s summer has so far been unexpectedly quiet.

Longtime club stalwarts Joel Ward and Jeffrey Schlupp have departed on free transfers, while speculation continues to swirl around several key players.

Eberechi Eze has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham, Jean-Philippe Mateta is attracting interest from both the Saudi Pro League and Manchester United, and Marc Guéhi has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool.

In terms of arrivals, Palace had made just one signing heading into mid-July: goalkeeper Walter Benítez, who joined on a free from PSV Eindhoven.

But on Friday, they finally announced their second signing of the window.

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Croatian international Borna Sosa from Ajax on a three-year deal running until 2028.

The transfer is believed to be worth around £2 million.

Sosa, 27, spent last season on loan at Serie A side Torino, where he made 20 appearances. He joined Ajax from Stuttgart in 2023, going on to play 25 times for the Dutch side. Prior to that, he notched up 115 appearances across five seasons with Stuttgart after making the move from Dinamo Zagreb.

Sosa was a key part of Croatia’s squad that reached the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, starting five of their six matches.

A natural left-back, Sosa has built a reputation for his elite delivery from wide areas.

His crossing ability has even drawn comparisons to David Beckham, with former Stuttgart sporting director Sven Mislintat once saying: “He puts in crosses from every angle: sometimes chipped, sometimes drilled, sometimes flat, sometimes in behind, sometimes to the front post, other times to the back post. His left foot is a real weapon.”

On joining Palace, Sosa said: “I’m very excited to join Crystal Palace. I’ve heard so many good things about the club. I cannot wait to meet the players, the staff, and all of the fans, because I’ve heard so many good things. I’m very, very excited to be here.”
