Crystal Palace: Andros Townsend speaks about Wilfried Zaha’s future

Crystal Palace: Andros Townsend speaks about Wilfried Zaha’s future - Crystal Palace News

Crystal Palace have had a solid start to the season as they sit eighth in the table with ten points after their first six games and have already beaten Manchester United.

One player who has inspired such good form has been Wilfried Zaha, whose teammate Andros Townsend has been praising the Ivorian and also discussing his future in south London.

Townsend’s latest comments on Wilfried Zaha

Speaking to talkSPORT (27/10/20, 10:00 am start) via HITC, Townsend said: “I think Wilf and the manager have made no secret that Wilf wanted to move this window. It’s not like he doesn’t like Crystal Palace or he has fallen out of love. He just believes that he was destined for bigger things, which I agree with.

“But when the transfer doesn’t happen, for whatever reason, he now obviously still loves Crystal Palace, he still wants to do his best and we are seeing this season that he is playing a more advanced role. I think he’s not our only option this season.

“There are others we can play, which is allowing him to get on the ball and get 1 v 1, as supposed to last season where he was going 1 v 2, 1 v 3 or 1 v 4. And this season, he is flourishing. Long may it continue for us. If he does get 15-20 goals, like he is on course for, I am sure he will get his move.”

Wilfried Zaha flourishing for Palace

Last season in the Premier League, the winger had a subdued campaign as he only managed four goals and three assists (WhoScored). However, this time around, Zaha already has five goals and one assist to his name. He is also averaging 2.5 shots and 1.5 key passes per game, and these figures highlight how crucial he is to Roy Hodgson’s side and just how good he can be when at his best. He has averaged 1.7 successful dribbles this season and 4.3 successful dribbles per game last term (WhoScored), which highlights how hard it is to play against him.

He has played 368 games in all competitions for the Eagles, with 62 goals and 71 assists to his name (Transfermarkt). Hodgson has also rewarded him with the captaincy on occasions this season.

With clubs across Europe such as Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain being linked with Zaha, it’s not hard to see why he might be tempted to leave for such illustrious Champions League destinations.

He is having a great season so far and, if he continues in the same vein, it seems inevitable that transfer speculation will continue.

In other news, Palace fans have been reacting as a Premier League midfielder has been linked with a move to the club. Have a read who it is here!
