Turkish giants Galatasaray are thought to be eyeing up a summer move for Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke.

That’s according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, cited by Sports Witness, who claim that the Belgian is a target for club president Mustafa Cengiz.

Galatasaray actually looked at Benteke during the January window, however, the forward wasn't keen on a move and remained at Selhurst Park.

Palace not convinced over new Benteke deal

The report adds that despite Benteke’s five Premier League goals this season, Palace aren’t convinced to offer the player a new deal, meaning he could leave for free in the summer.

Benteke, who has been at Selhurst Park since a big-money move from Liverpool in 2016, has scored 28 goals in 138 appearances, but it seems he may fall just shy of the 150-appearance landmark.

Galatasaray have also been linked to Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt in recent weeks, who is also out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

Transfer Tavern take

To us, we feel as if Palace should steer clear of offering the powerful forward a new deal, despite flashes of brilliance shown in recent months.

The 30-year-old is on a whopping £120,000-a-week in London, so the club could benefit massively by having that salary off the books.

It remains to be seen what Palace will do with Benteke, but it seems as if he may have an offer on the table in Turkey, should he not pen an extension with the Eagles.
