Crystal Palace’s interest in re-signing their former player and academy graduate Victor Moses looks to be over as Turkish giants Fenerbahce swoop in for the Chelsea star, who is not in Maurizio Sarri’s plans at Stamford Bridge.
What’s the word, then?
As reported by Turkish outlet Milliyet, the 28-year-old is close to a move after falling out of favour in west London. Moses was a key part of Antonio Conte’s title-winning side of 2017, starting 29 Premier League games in a right wing-back role and scoring three goals along with recording two assists as the Blues reigned supreme.
Now, however, due to Sarri’s preferred system not including such a role, chances have been a rarity for the Nigerian – he has made just two league appearances this season, both coming from the bench.
Moses’ former club, Palace, had hoped to swoop in and bring their former starlet home to Selhurst Park, but they look to have been beaten to the punch.
The Verdict
The Eagles’ failure to sign the former Wigan forward will be disappointing for the romantics amongst the Palace fanbase, but in the grand scheme of things, it shouldn’t be stewed over for too long as other areas remain a priority.
Roy Hodgson is desperate for a striker to come in and help his side finish some of the many chances they create, as only Jordan Ayew has found the back of the net out of himself, Connor Wickham and Christian Benteke in red and blue this season – even then, the Ghanaian has only two strikes to his name.
Ayew is also taking up one of two available loan spots for Palace, who, with limited funds, may only have been able to bring Moses back to south London on a temporary deal, which should be left available for any striking opportunity that may arise later on in the window – another Chelsea reject in Michy Batshuayi, perhaps.
