Love him or hate him, there’s no denying Diego Costa is a talented striker. Football’s equivalent to Marmite was a huge success in his first Premier League season, helping Chelsea storm to the title, and whilst he struggled for goals in the first-half of this campaign, he’s found his feet again.
However, the Blues likely lack of Champions League football next term is a major problem and Chelsea run the risk of losing the Spanish striker altogether- with the most recent reports suggesting a shock switch to join Manchester United.
Whilst many Red Devils supporters will not fancy having the controversial striker at Old Trafford, it’s a prospect that should certainly be considered as the former Atletico Madrid man will undoubtably improve United’s flailing attacking line.
Whilst Anthony Martial has shown promise and Marcus Rashford has emerged as a diamond in the rough, United need a more reliable striker- and Costa would be exactly that!

Goals, goal, goals!

Diego Costa guarantees you two things- plenty of back pages detailing his behaviour and a shedload of goals. Naturally, it’s the latter that would appeal to Manchester United and it’s something they desperately need.
This term, in what’s been a disappointing season for both Chelsea and Costa himself, the Spaniard’s haul of 11 Premier League goals is more than any Manchester United player. In fact, it’s only three shy of what Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have hit combined this season.
Cut-throat attitude

What makes Costa hated by rival supporters is actually what makes him the striker he is. Diego Costa doesn’t take anything lightly, he’s not afraid to get stuck in, stand-up for his team-mates or be a little naughty.
If a Manchester United fans tells you they’re above that, don’t listen to him. Ruud Van Nistelrooy was similar, although not to the same extent, whilst Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie also have history- and they’re all saints when compared to Roy Keane.
Sometimes, you need a little bite to your attack.
Attacking spearhead

With the ability to get goals and control the attacking outlay, Diego Costa is an ideal spearhead for a Manchester United attack. With players supporting him out wide and from behind, he should be capable of getting plenty of goals.
He’s an old-fashioned goal-getter, capable of putting away the final touch or creating something himself. He does also provide assists but that’s not his defining attribute, it’s merely a bonus to the array of qualities Costa can provide.
Fan support

Yes, Diego Costa may be the most hated man in the Premier League but that’s certainly not the case amongst the Chelsea fans, who adore him. Manchester United need a beloved figure like that, a hero they can trust.
Costa may get himself on the wrong side of the football law’s at times but he’s a superstar to the supporters and if he moved to Old Trafford, it wouldn’t take long for the fans to love him.
Statement of intent

Imagine how big it would be if Manchester United, who have endured three awful seasons back-to-back, managed to snatch the leading striker off one of their Premier League rivals- it would be a massive statement of intent.
By securing Costa, United would effectively say ‘we’re still here and we will still attract the best players, no matter how poor our season has been’. There’s no doubt, this transfer would certainly make headlines across the globe.
