St Andrew's, Birmingham, Britain - February 10, 2023. Birmingham City's Dion Sanderson celebrates after the match.

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dion Sanderson facing a spell on the sidelines is ‘unfortunate’, according to journalist Liam Keen.

The Lowdown: Out for 7-8 weeks

The Old Gold centre-back swapped the Premier League for the Championship last summer when he joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan, but he’s recently suffered a setback in his development which Julen Lopetegui will no doubt be gutted about.

The 6 foot 2 colossus has been ruled out of action for seven to eight weeks after sustaining a back injury meaning that he won’t be able to feature for a large proportion of the remainder of the term.

The Latest: Keen’s reaction

Taking to Twitter, Keen reacted to the gutting update he’d heard regarding Sanderson. He simply wrote:

“Unfortunate injury news for Wolves loanee Dion Sanderson.”

First up in this Wolves transfer quiz, who was the last player to be signed by Bruno Lage at Molineux?

The Verdict: Huge blow

Sanderson has been excelling during his time at St. Andrews so it’ll come as a massive blow to both him and Birmingham to have stumbled across this roadblock heading into the latter stages of the season.

The Wednesfield-born talent was averaging 2.7 clearances and 1.7 aerial wins prior to his absence, highlighting the rock he’s become at the heart of the Blues backline (WhoScored).

The 23-year-old also has one goal and one assist to his name so is clearly developing his game to become an impact player at both ends of the pitch (Transfermarkt).

Sanderson has been labelled an ‘aggressive’ and ‘quality’ defender by journalist Josh Bunting, which is represented in his statistics, and he will no doubt be hoping to return to the field as quickly as possible.

Will Sanderson go on to be a first-team Wolves player?
