Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed an enormous summer in the transfer market, adding quality across the pitch as Roberto De Zerbi looks to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.
The arrival of major names such as Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke has underlined Spurs’ ambition, while Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have also strengthened the squad.
However, the influx of new talent could now be followed by a significant departure, with one of Tottenham’s regular starters closing in on a move to Italy.
Spence Set for Inter Medical
Tottenham defender Djed Spence is set to undergo a medical with Inter Milan after arriving in Italy ahead of a proposed move worth at least £25.6 million.
Spence was filmed arriving in Milan by Sky Sport Italia and even greeted those waiting for him with a confident “Forza Inter”, suggesting the transfer is now nearing completion.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign with Spurs, making 32 appearances during the 2025-26 season, while he also impressed for England at the World Cup.
However, competition for places has increased at Tottenham. Pedro Porro recently committed his future to the club by signing a new contract, while Robertson has arrived from Liverpool to strengthen the left side of the defence.
Spence had previously been encouraged to remain in north London, with De Zerbi saying earlier this summer that he wanted to persuade the defender to stay.
Former Manchester United and England star Gary Neville has previously described Spence as “aggressive”, reflecting the full-back’s energetic approach and willingness to attack.
Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough for an initial £12.5m in 2022 and has since made 85 appearances for the club, helping Spurs win the Europa League in 2025.
A move to Inter would also represent a return to Italy for Spence, who previously spent six months on loan at Genoa in 2024.
