Everton fans in The Transfer Tavern are gathered around the jukebox discussing the news that one of their strikers has triggered an extension to his contract with the club.
The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Arouna Kone has triggered a new one year deal at the club after making his 35th appearance for the club against Sunderland yesterday afternoon.
Kone has become a fan favourite at Goodison Park since joining the club from Wigan Athletic during the summer of 2013.
He has found his goal scoring touch so far this season and has netted five times in 11 appearances so far this season. Speaking to the press about Kone, manager Roberto Martinez said:
“First of all, you need to develop that self belief that you can be important for a team and a club and Arouna has always had that. His attitude, his focus never changed and he never chose to blame anyone and anything. Against Watford (on the opening day of the season), it was initially very difficult, but it became a real turning point.”
“From that point on, he has been very impressive. Today was the most complete 90 mins he has had and it was a phenomenal 90 minutes because it triggers an extension to his contract. That special feeling from the crowd towards him is because he can score a goal out of nothing. He is a sensational example to any young footballer facing adversity.”
The Everton fans in The Transfer Tavern are delighted that Kone is an Everton player for at least another year and hope his early season form can continue as the season progresses.
