Goodison Park was, of course, where Rooney made his name – and a return to Everton was widely considered to be a pipedream for the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Comments from Ronald Koeman seemed to hint that a deal might be forthcoming, though, building a sense of anticipation in the pub.
It seems, though, that West Ham may have something to say about the future of Rooney – with Sky Sports reporting that the London-based side are keen on a move for the striker.
Indeed, this has not gone down very well with the Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern – with many hoping that their side will still be able to secure a deal for Rooney. Twitter has seen a very similar reaction – with the majority of fans still fully behind the idea of Rooney returning to Everton.
