The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed with the form of Alexis Sanchez this season. The Chilean returned to the team late after a summer break, and though he delivered a few good performances initially, it was clear that he was nowhere close to his best.

To be fair to him, he’s had a very busy few years. Between club and international football, he’s hardly had a rest since moving to the Emirates, but this year it appears to have taken its toll. He’s lacked the energy, drive and commitment that have made him a household name in England, and that is costing the Gunners.

Against Southampton over the weekend he showed more of the same, with the Chilean failing to lead the charge as the Gunners stumbled to a 1-1 draw against the Saints.

With Arsenal set to take on West Ham on Wednesday, then, Arsene Wenger could have a big decision on his hands. He’ll want to secure a win, and at this point, Sanchez isn’t pulling his weight enough to demand a start.

With that said, Wenger should replace the Chilean with 1 of these 2 players against West Ham – agreed?

 Alex Iwobi

Alex Iwobi has had a decent season so far. At points, he’s been a regular for the Gunners, but as the season has progressed, his significance within the side has regressed.

He has made just 5 Premier League starts, whilst three appearances have come from the bench, suggesting that Arsene Wenger doesn’t have total faith in him quite yet.

One way to get that faith, though, would be to put in a stellar performance on Wednesday. He’s not going to get a better chance to make a name for himself, and so if Wenger selects him, he’ll no doubt do all he can to succeed.

 Danny Welbeck

Danny Welbeck has had an injury-torn spell at Arsenal, but he looks to be getting past it.

Between appearances from the bench and starts, he’s clocked up 10 displays in the Premier League this term, and now he’ll be keen to kick on and really cement himself in the first team. At 27-years-old, it’s now or never for him.

He’s certainly got the talent to do just that, and so if Wenger calls upon him, he’s well placed to put in a good showing.

With pace, power and a solid shot, he will be a real threat going forward.
