Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for next season as they look to retain their Premier League title.
It’s hard to pick out any improvements Pep Guardiola can make to his squad after the successes of last season. The Citizens have strength in depth right across the field, but the Spaniard wants to add at least two major signings now the window is open. He has wasted no time in pursuing his top targets with Napoli’s Jorginho and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez excepted to sign for the club in the near future.
The combined deals are expected to cost the Citizens upwards of £100m and would wrap up the majority of their transfer business. One potential area of improvement could be between the sticks with a lack of sufficient back up for Ederson. Claudio Bravo is approaching the end of his career and has started to decline.
To provide some depth, City should look to land Toulouse ‘keeper – Alban Lafont. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Frenchman is one of Europe’s hottest prospects. He featured in every game for his side in Ligue 1, keeping 12 clean sheets. He would provide excellent backup and be an option for the future.
Under Guardiola’s tutelage, Lafont could develop into one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.
Manchester City fans, thoughts?
