El Mohamady and McGinn must start for Aston Villa against Birmingham today

Aston Villa will be desperate to build on their last performance as they secured all three points against Derby County at Pride Park.

The Villains have definitely improved since Dean Smith took charge as they continue to deliver impressive performances, with positive results now beginning to filter in.

Interestingly, Aston Villa will welcome Birmingham City to Villa Park in their next Championship fixture. The Blues have been dominant under the guidance of Garry Monk this season but have suffered a dip in from recently, so the Villains will fancy themselves in the Second City derby.

With that in mind, Smith must get his team selection right by selecting these TWO Aston Villa players…

AHMED EL MOHAMADY

Ahmed El Mohamady hasn’t really been able to have much of a positive effect on proceedings so far this season, which has seen him drop to the substitutes’ bench in recent times.

However, after witnessing Neil Taylor’s dreadful performance against Derby last time out, Smith should think about bringing the Egyptian back into the side by moving Alan Hutton over to left-back.

Jota is a constant danger for Birmingham City down the right-hand side, so they can’t afford to have Taylor costing them any points in the all-important Second City derby clash.

JOHN MCGINN

John McGinn has been one of the signings of the summer for Aston Villa as he continues to produce goals and assists from the middle of the midfield. He currently has four goals and six assists to his name, with plenty more to come from here on in until the end of the season.

So, Aston Villa will be rely heavily on the Scotsman to deliver yet another world-class performance in the side to help secure all three points against their bitter rivals.
