The Arsenal fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are becoming a bit anxious that the club has yet to splash the cash on players capable of propelling them back into the top four spots.
After last season’s disaster where the Gunners finished outside of the top four for the second season in a row, Unai Emery is now the man tasked with trying to get Arsenal back to where they think they belong. Our punters think a good way of trying to achieve that dream is by signing Atletico Madrid’s Stefan Savic, who is valued at £36 million on Transfermarkt.
The 27-year-old featured in 37 appearances last season for the Europa League winners, helping his team to 18 clean sheets and proving that with him in Atletico’s defence, they’re even harder to break down. Arsenal, on the other hand, have had many problems defensively and specifically with their centre-backs Mustafi and captain Koscielny. the mistake-ridden defenders are one of the biggest weak points for Arsenal and that has to be addressed should the club be serious about their ambitions of finishing in the top four again.
Stefan Savic would make the perfect centre-back to come into the club, given that his starting 11 place isn’t always guaranteed with the Spanish giants, whereas at Arsenal, Savic would likely be a regular. Savic has a good amount of pace for a centre-back, has strong awareness for the game and coming from Atletico’s team who typically have a very strong defence, he could bring knowledge and experience that could help Arsenal in the long-term.
