During Everton’s 3-1 over Crystal Palace at the weekend, Bernard opened the scoring with a ‘fantastic‘ volley – marking his 50th Premier League appearance with a goal after feeding off Theo Walcott’s cross.
Bernard, who has impressed in flashes for the Toffees this campaign when starting, is currently winning the favour of supporters on Merseyside following his brilliant finish to set Carlo Ancelotti’s side on their way to another crucial victory. The Brazilian, who has amassed three league goals and two assists from the wing this campaign, also impresses when compared to fellow midfielder Walcott – with the 27-year-old amassing more key passes (1.1) and more dribbles per game (1.3) than his English counterpart despite averaging fewer shots in that time (0.7), as per WhoScored.com.
However, after the club’s victory, supporters are less concerned with comparing the two and more interested in lauding a potential partnership – with Walcott doing well to make space before putting the ball on a plate for Bernard to fire home.
As a result, after a clip of Bernard’s weekend goal was shared by Everton’s official Twitter account, these supporters have flocked to gush over the technique, with one giving credit to the club’s director of football Marcel Brands over the Brazilian’s transfer to Goodison Park in 2018:
