According to a Twitter post by Everton account Toffees TV, assistant coach and former Goodison Park hero Duncan Ferguson visited an 80-year-old supporter and brought him a signed shirt during the early hours of Monday morning, resulting in plenty of Toffees fans applauding the gesture.
Ferguson, who made 240 league appearances for Everton over three different spells during the mid-1990s to mid-2000s, scoring 61 top-flight goals in that time (Soccerbase), recently took interim charge of the senior team before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as Marco Silva’s permanent replacement.
Since then, he has gone into the role of assistant coach, helping to guide the under-23s to seventh in the Premier League 2 table before being appointed to the senior bench. Due to his presumably busy schedule, many supporters have applauded his kind gesture of visiting an 80-year-old fan on his birthday with a signed shirt and the opportunity for a photo, with one Toffees supporter describing him as a ‘top man‘.
