Everton fans have been debating on social media whether or not Mason Holgate should be pushed into midfield and Jean-Philippe Gbamin should move to centre back.
Holgate, who typically plays as a defender, featured in midfield during his side’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United earlier in the season, with the temporary manager Duncan Ferguson utilising him in the middle of the park. Having been touted as the replacement for Idrissa Gana Gueye, Gbamin has been riddled with injury since his arrival at Goodison Park in the summer. The 23-year-old made his breakthrough at French side RC Lens as a right-back before transitioning into a centre-back role. During his spell at Mainz, he played 12 games in that position and 24 games for Lens, as per TransferMarkt.

As a result, fans began to discuss whether the two players should trade positions in the Toffees’ setup. Gbamin has been sidelined since August with a hamstring setback and some supporters have discussed the possibility of moving him to the back while bringing Holgate further forward. This created a great debate on Twitter and those involved made their feelings clear on social media.
