Everton are set to go head-to-head with Arsenal in a battle to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to reports in Spain.
The Spanish publication AS revealed that the Toffees have joined the race to sign the Columbia international on loan until the end of the season. Indeed, Rodriguez has only scored one goal in seven La Liga appearances during the current campaign after suffering a catalogue of injuries during the first few months of the season, as per TransferMarkt.
The Colombia international is valued at £36m and has fallen down the pecking order at the Spanish capital with the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro all preferred by manager Zinedine Zidane. With 18 months left on his contract, the Daily Mail suggested that Madrid would be open to letting him leave the Santiago Bernabeu, with Toffees’ boss Carlo Ancelotti very keen to bring him to Goodison Park.
So, given his status in the game, supporters drooled over the possibility of Rodriguez making the switch to Merseyside and made their feelings clear on social media.
