Everton fans are fearful of midfielder Andre Gomes going on international duty with Portugal in case he picks up another knock.

It’s not been a great start to the season for the Toffees, with Everton currently languishing in the bottom three despite recruiting over £100m (via Transfermarkt) worth of talent in the summer.
This poor run of form hasn’t been helped by the absence of Gomes, who has missed the last three games with a rib problem, and is now set to be put at further risk by hopping on a plane to fulfil his international obligations.
A statement from the club’s website read: “Andre Gomes is joining up with Portugal after being summoned for European Championship qualifying fixtures against Luxembourg and Ukraine. The 26-year-old, who completed a permanent transfer to Everton from Barcelona this summer, replaces injured Real Betis player William Carvalho in manager Fernando Santos’s squad.”
Portugal currently occupy second spot in Group B of the Euro 2020 qualifiers but face a vital couple of games to stay ahead of Serbia who are right on their tail.
Here’s how a few Everton fans on Twitter reacted to the news of Gomes being called up:
