Everton: Fans fear Andre Gomes will pick up injury on international duty

Everton fans are fearful of midfielder Andre Gomes going on international duty with Portugal in case he picks up another knock.

It’s not been a great start to the season for the Toffees, with Everton currently languishing in the bottom three despite recruiting over £100m (via Transfermarkt) worth of talent in the summer.

This poor run of form hasn’t been helped by the absence of Gomes, who has missed the last three games with a rib problem, and is now set to be put at further risk by hopping on a plane to fulfil his international obligations.

A statement from the club’s website read: “Andre Gomes is joining up with Portugal after being summoned for European Championship qualifying fixtures against Luxembourg and Ukraine. The 26-year-old, who completed a permanent transfer to Everton from Barcelona this summer, replaces injured Real Betis player William Carvalho in manager Fernando Santos’s squad.”

Portugal currently occupy second spot in Group B of the Euro 2020 qualifiers but face a vital couple of games to stay ahead of Serbia who are right on their tail.
