Everton didn’t start the New Year off in style away at Manchester City, where they slumped to a 2-1 defeat. Indeed, expectations will be high now Carlo Ancelotti has taken over, but a failure to pick up any points at the home of the champions may have been a wake-up call for dreaming Evertonians. In fact, many certainly weren’t pleased with Tom Davies’ performance, that’s for sure.
He was rated just 6.6/10 by WhoScored and Sofa Score recorded that he was dispossessed eight times during the game, and, against a team such as City, that’s going to cost the team. Not only that, the 21-year-old was rated 5/10 by the Liverpool Echo, however, they appeared sympathetic to his performance due to the fact he started on the left, where he hasn’t played yet this season.
Many Everton fans weren’t so understanding though.
The club posted a quote from the academy graduate saying “We are going in the right direction, even today we weren’t at our best but the lads showed great spirit to keep going towards the end and not let the game get away from us”.
As you can imagine, Some fans then chose to reply and show just how disappointed they were with the youngster’s showing.
🗨️ | “Today is a setback – but we have been in good form.”
Not the start to the new year we wanted, but Tom Davies says the Blues can learn plenty from #MCIEVE…

You can see some of their reactions to the tweet below:
Coming from a player who was absolutely poor in today’s game and failed to complete simple passes. Marking and winning balls as well as creativity hit rock bottom and looked ragged on the pitch. Please do better joor.

Shame he thought we were playing in sky blue today…too many misplaced passes. This is professional football, not Sunday league. This issue needs sorting. Him and Gylfi giving up possession way too much. Let’s hope lessons are learnt and we come back stronger for Sunday!

Tom Davies deserves a special one on one session with Big Dunc after his performance today. What a load of rubbish both performance and comment.

Absolute lightweight…

Tom Davies was one of our worst players. His passing and decision making was awful. Ancelotti won’t put up with that for long.

Everton fans, what did you make of Tom Davies’ performance against Man City?
