It has been revealed that Martin Atkinson will referee the upcoming Merseyside derby at Goodison Park (Liverpool Echo) and neither sets of fans are happy.
As a result, Everton fans especially are raging over the appointment of Atkinson to their home game. Indeed, the 48-year-old has made some controversial decisions against the Toffees over the years, invoking the ire of fans below. These include his choice to send off Jack Rodwell in this same fixture back in 2011 and the Manchester City goal he allowed to stand in the 2016 Capital One Cup despite the ball being out of play.
Overall, this will be the seventh Merseyside derby Atkinson will take charge of and, as per World Football, Everton have won just 10 of their 37 games under his watch, losing 15.
Fans have taken to Twitter to express their frustration, with many lashing out at the ‘corruption’ of the Premier League. Another supporter has described this decision at the ‘final nail in the coffin’.
Martin Atkinson is the ref for the derby.
This is not a drill, I repeat this is not a drill.
Absolutely corrupt from top to bottom.

Martin Atkinson as referee, anthony Taylor as var. Why dont you have jon moss as 4th official to rub it in even more. Corrupt premier league at it's best.
