Everton have released a tweet from their official Twitter account highlighting the statistics of Leighton Baines’ performance against Manchester United yesterday. Fans are in utter admiration of him, with one branding him ‘one of the best left-backs’ they’d ever seen.
It was a match heavily coated in controversy after the Blues had a goal chalked off due to a VAR offside call against Gylfi Sigurdsson and the game ended 1-1 after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied his brace in the dying minutes of the match. Still, despite the drama, many fans are more than pleased with how Baines performed in defence.
The 35-year-old native dominated the left-flank, creating three goal-scoring opportunities and completing seven successful passes in the final third (via Everton).
Baines has spent 13 years with the Toffees and has made 342 appearances, in which time he has been named Everton’s Player of the Year twice and claimed the Goal of the Season award in the 2010/11 campaign (via ToffeeWeb).
One fan has hailed Baines as an ‘absolute wonder’ while another gushes over him being the ‘greatest Everton player in my lifetime’.
