According to a report from Sky Sports, Everton have been linked with a move for Dalian Yifang star Yannick Carrasco in the January transfer window – prompting some Toffees supporters to hammer the ‘baseless’ links with the former Atletico Madrid winger.
Carrasco, who has bagged 17 goals and seven assists in the Chinese Super League this campaign, is reportedly on the Toffees’ radar – potentially highlighting new manager Carlo Ancelotti’s aspirations to turn the tide at Goodison Park. In comparison to Everton’s current wingers Theo Walcott and Bernard, Carrasco has eclipsed the pair in dribbles per game (3.7) and shots on average (3.4) in the league – as well as amassing a superior pass success rate, as per WhoScored.com.
While some critics may argue that these numbers come from plying his trade in an inferior league, an argument could be made for his acquisition on the basis he reached a Champions League final with Atletico back in 2014 and has totalled 41 caps for Belgium – scoring six goals and assisting nine others (Transfermarkt) – highlighting his experience at the top level.
However, some Toffees supporters feel that the rumour is too ‘baseless’ and are therefore not confident in landing the 26-year-old – with one fan jokingly hinting that the club is more likely to recall winger Yannick Bolasie back from his loan at Sporting Lisbon.
You’ve spelt Bolasie wrong there
