Everton: Fans laud Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as he is stripped of Southampton captaincy

Lots of Everton fans have been lauding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after it was revealed by Sky Sports (via The Gwladys Street) that he was stripped off of the captaincy by Southampton after he confessed his desire to play at a higher level.

As per the Daily Mail, the captaincy has now been given to James Ward-Prowse as Hojbjerg remains a transfer target for both the Merseyside club and Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming summer transfer window, as he is currently valued at £35 million.

Comparing the stats of the central midfield player to Fabian Delph, Tom Davies and Andre Gomes in the Premier League so far in the 2019/20 season, Hojbjerg averages more tackles, interceptions, clearances, shots and key passes, according to Whoscored.

The 24-year old outshines the other midfielders at Goodsion Park in terms of his qualities both defensively and offensively, and being a former captain, the Danish international would surely add some leadership qualities to the team as well as an added bonus.
