Everton fans on Twitter desperate to see club sign Drinkwater

For much of this transfer window, Everton have been linked with moves for a central defender and left-back.

Barcelona’s Yerry Mina has been targeted for the former position, while Lucas Digne’s arrival at Goodison Park gives manager Marco Silva a long-term successor to Leighton Baines.

With Digne and other summer signing Richarlison now secured and a deal for another defender being worked on, Silva could soon move on to strengthening his midfield and one name that has recently popped up is Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater.

The Daily Mirror reports the Blues are willing to listen to offers for the English midfielder with Everton said to be one of a few Premier League clubs interested.

And Drinkwater, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, could be a very clever capture for the Toffees.

The Merseyside club are currently lacking in central midfield and a midfielder of Drinkwater’s profile may just be what Silva’s side needs.

The former Leicester City man’s passing and ability to start counter attacks would complement the tackling and dirty work of Idrissa Gueye nicely.
