Everton supporters will be hoping their latest summer acquisitions can make more of an impact than Davy Klaassen did when he was at the club.
£13.5m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Klaassen arrived at Goodison Park last summer following a successful season with Eredivisie giants Ajax but failed to make any relevant contribution during his short spell in Merseyside.
The 25-year-old has now moved to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen and has since had some harsh words to say about the English game.
Speaking to Aller-Zeitung newspaper (via Sport Witness), Klaassen said: “In England, it’s all about the money – because it’s just there.
“Basically the clubs can shop as they want. In Germany, this really big money is not there. The clubs are more concerned with developing an idea, a philosophy. For me, the move to Bremen is also something of a change back to the roots of football.”
There is no denying the financial clout of the Premier League, but Klaassen is clearly bitter following his disastrous and short-lived spell in England as an Everton player.
