Everton were unable to end their barren run at Anfield yesterday after a freak Divock Origi goal right at the death ensured Liverpool collected all three points in what was a pretty even game.
Bar the moment where Jordan Pickford’s howler allowed Origi to score the winner, Everton looked assured at the back, while they also carried a large threat going forward.
Gylfi Sigurdsson, Richarlison, Ademola Lookman when he was brought on in the second half and Andre Gomes, in particular, all looked dangerous in attack, giving manager Marco Silva many positives to take from the game.
And the Portuguese coach has since come out to praise his side, suggesting they did not deserve to lose.
“I know the main thing in football is the result – but I am proud of our players and how we performed,” Silva told Everton’s official club website after the game. “I think it is clear, we did not deserve that result and it was a lucky, lucky, lucky day for Liverpool.”
