Everton: Fans pay respects to Blues icon Alan Ball

As Alan Ball would have been celebrating his 75th birthday, Everton fans have flocked to pay their respects to the ex-player.

The Lancashire-born former midfielder joined the Merseyside outfit in 1966 and spent five years of his career there before he moved down south to join Arsenal. Ball made 208 league appearances – 249 overall – and scored 78 goals across all competitions (via Toffeeweb).

His arrival from Blackpool cost the club £110,000, which Everton doubled through his move to the Gunners for £220,000.

Everton fans are sending their birthday messages to the star who should have been celebrating a milestone birthday, but sadly Ball passed away from a heart attack in 2007.

Many Toffees have taken to Twitter to pay their respects to the Goodison icon on his birthday. One supporter has posted that Ball is a “true legend,” before going on to say that he is ‘maybe Everton’s greatest ever player’.
