Everton fans were left furious after Fabian Delph suffered a fresh injury setback on the dawn of their FA Cup third round clash against hated neighbours Liverpool on Sunday.
Delph, who joined the Toffees from Manchester City for £10m in the summer, jumped straight into the heart of Everton’s midfield but fitness issues have seen his expected playing time dramatically cut.
The England international has suffered a catalogue of injuries since his arrival on Merseyside and only play 17 times for the Citizens last season.
Carlo Ancelotti now finds himself short of midfielders, with his key assets Delph and Andre Gomes sidelined for the crunch clash on Sunday.
Despite this, the three-time Champions League winner told the Liverpool Echo that he will closely monitor his fitness, admitting that the medical staff have experienced issues with Delph’s knee.
