Everton fans have heaped praise on defender Mason Holgate amid reports that he is set to be called up to the England squad for the first time in his career.
The 23-year-old has not been capped by his country so far in his career and is in line for a call-up to the Three Lions after various visits from manager Gareth Southgate, who was impressed by what he saw, according to the Daily Mirror. The Three Lions boss is searching for defenders that can fill holes in his squad.

Holgate had made 69 appearances for the Toffees before yesterday’s game against Newcastle United, with fans recognising his improvement under the watchful eye of three-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti. Supporters were delighted for the Englishman and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he was “better than [Michael] Keane”, while another described his expected international opportunity as “well deserved”.
