Everton fans have rubbished reports that the club is expected to come under scrutiny for the naming rights of their new stadium.
The Daily Mail reported that the Premier League will scrutinise Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov after it was announced, at the club’s AGM on Tuesday, that he has invested £30m for the option to buy the naming rights for their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium. Rival club executives told Sportsmail (via the Daily Mail) that such a move by the Merseysiders would raise questions over the rules regarding profit and sustainability.

Those representatives for the clubs not named in the report want the Premier League to investigate, which could force Everton to repay some of the £30m. According to the Premier League rules (cited by the Daily Mail), E.54 states that any commercial deal ‘arising from a related party transaction’ must be ‘recorded in the club’s annual accounts at a fair market value’. Supporters were not buying the report and made their feelings clear on social media.
