Everton: Fans welcome back Andre Gomes as he returns to first-team action during Arsenal defeat

Loads of Everton fans were pleased with midfielder Andre Gomes following his first appearance in a royal blue shirt since fracturing his ankle.

The 26-year-old featured as a second-half substitute with 31 minutes to play as the Toffees lost 3-2 against Arsenal at the Emirates. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison scored two first-half goals to send a clear message to the Gunners that they were not going to roll over. However, a brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and a goal from Eddie Nketiah meant that the Blues left north London empty-handed.

Gomes, who suffered a fractured dislocation of his right ankle back in November, came on for Morgan Schneiderlin after three months out, whilst many suspected that he would not play again during the current campaign. Despite being disappointed with the defeat, supporters took the positive in seeing Gomes return to action. One fan said that he instantly made the difference with his running in midfield.
