Lots of Everton fans have been slamming the performance of Alex Iwobi in the first half of their game at home to West Ham United in the Premier League this afternoon.
The former Arsenal man gave the ball away rather cheaply in the first minute of the match, which really set the tone for the rest of his half. Just 10 minutes into the game, Sky Sports co-commentator Jamie Carragher said that the Nigerian “has not started well at all” after coming into the team in place of Anthony Gordon.
Should Everton cut their losses on Iwobi?
He was guilty of far too many slack passes, while he was also dispossessed very easily at times, and he missed a good chance to score midway through the half, while miskicking from inside the six-yard box just before the half-hour mark.
Defensively, he did little to help Lucas Digne on his flank, letting Ben Johnson overlap him constantly, and in general he has just lacked quality.
Iwobi will be hoping to have a much better second half as he looks to help Everton to return to winning ways this afternoon at Goodison Park.
Everton fans on Iwobi’s performance
These Everton supporters on Twitter slammed Iwobi’s performance, with one Toffees fan even going as far as to claim that the 25-year-old is a ‘horrendous’ player:
“Iwobi on the break. Passes it straight to West Ham”
“Iwobi drives you mad”
“Iwobi steals a living at Everton.”
“Iwobi is so bad”
“What is Iwobi good at?”
“Iwobi is horrendous… should have started Gordon”
