Carlo Ancelotti has said that Andre Gomes was ‘the best player on the pitch’ as Everton beat Leeds United 2-1 away from home in the Premier League.
It was a very impressive overall display from the Goodison Park faithful, who went 2-0 up before the half-time whistle through goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, before Raphinha added what tuned out to be a consolation goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s team very early on in the second half.
Should Gomes start for Everton?
There were some great performances from an individual perspective as well, but Ancelotti clearly thought that Gomes was the one that stood out above the rest.
Gomes was great for Everton
Indeed, Gomes put in a great display for the Merseyside club, as he won six out of seven of his duels and also had a 100% dribble success rate (4/4) (Sofascore).
The central midfield player also managed to achieve a quite impressive 94% pass accuracy, the highest percentage out of any of his teammates to have started the game, made one key pass and only lost possession of the ball a mere four times in the entire match, the fewest out of any Toffees player who started (Sofascore).
His ability with the ball at his feet was clear for all Blues fans to see, as they will be hoping that the Portugal international can keep up this level of performance over their next few games.
