Some Everton fans were left fuming at the display of Abdoulaye Doucoure in their 1-0 win over Sheffield United in the Premier League.
Although the Goodison Park faithful ended up winning the game thanks to a late goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson, which in turn brought them up to second spot in the table, some supporters of the Merseyside club felt as if he was going too far forward at times, leaving Carlo Ancelotti’s team quite exposed at the back.
Will Doucoure be a good signing for Everton?
The central midfield player also only managed a 6.5 overall rating on Sofascore, which was one of the lowest out of any of his teammates to have set foot on the pitch.
He also failed to win as many as eight of his duels in the match, while he also failed to make a single interception or tackle and lost possession of the ball 18 times (Sofascore).
Everton fan reaction to Doucoure display
These EFC supporters fumed at his performance on Twitter, with one Toffee even claiming that his positioning was ‘daft’:
“We’re way too deep. Doucoure & Iwobi are lost.”
“Only briefly watching, but can still see Doucoure and Sigurdsson’s positioning in the build-up is daft, just leaves Davies isolated without offering much when constructing.”
“Why is Doucoure playing upfront? Leaving Davies by himself”
“Doucoure and Sigurdsson need to start coming for the ball, no point in standing next to Dom when we have no option but to go back”
“Doucoure we’re in blue lad”
“So far Doucoure as a CDM has been higher than Siggy for the majority of the game. I don’t see how this is tactically stable”
