Marcel Brands has called for more former Everton players to return to the Goodison Park faithful in a coaching capacity, according to the Liverpool Echo.
As per the news outlet, Duncan Ferguson, David Unsworth, John Ebbrell, Leighton Baines and Francis Jeffers all have various roles in the Merseyside club, while Tim Cahill has been a regular guest at Finch Farm as he works toward getting his coaching badges.
Should Brands sign a new deal at Everton?
Brands’ stance was lauded by some Toffees supporters as it was shared on Twitter, with other names being thrown into the mix for possible coaching positions by fans, including Phil Jagielka, Lee Carsley, Danny Cadamarteri, Neville Southall, Seamus Coleman, Paul Gascoigne and Tim Howard.
Nonetheless, it would be good for the Blues to get more people around the club that know it inside and out, as they look to kick on with them in a good place in the Premier League at the moment.
Everton fan reaction to Brands news
These EFC fans lauded the news on Twitter, while coming up with their own suggestions for potential coaching roles:
“I’m all for it so long as they have the right mentality and it’s not just being sentimental because it then becomes an old boys easy retirement club.”
“I’d love Phil Jagielka, @lecarso, Danny Cadamarteri, @Tim_Cahill or Southall back at Everton coaching.”
“Think Southall would be amazing”
“Seamus, Jagielka, Cahill, Ferguson and Baines would be amazing. Were all top players for us in their positions and can pass the culture of the club on”
“I’d love to see the club get Gazza and help him in a way by getting him in with the kids. Maybe a 3 tick warning on the other front.”
“Tim Howard would make an incredible goalkeeping coach”
