Some Everton fans were left slamming Andre Gomes for his very poor display versus Leicester City away from home in the Premier League.
The central midfield player came on to replace the injured Allan at the end of the first half and would have been looking to prove to Carlo Ancelotti as to why he should start Saturday’s evening clash at Goodison Park against Arsenal.
Should Gomes start for Everton?
However, his performance was far from impressive, leaving some supporters of the Merseyside club in dismay.
Even though the Portugal international was on the pitch for just under a hour, he still managed to record fewer touches than goalkeeper Robin Olsen and failed to make a single key pass in the game (Sofascore), showing that he did not have much influence upon his team.
The 27 year-old also failed to register a shot, clearance, interception or cross, and also lost possession of the ball no fewer than 11 times in the match (Sofascore).
Everton fan reaction to Gomes display
These Toffees slammed the performance of Gomes on Twitter, with one Blue even claiming that it was ‘shocking’:

I haven’t got a scooby mate. Cant be carrying players now. He will cost us Europe if he plays any more part

Said it for long enough now but Gomes is not even a quarter of the player since that injury. Slow and weak but the positioning and decision making has gone now too. No resale value so with us for a while but his decline is frustrating and sad. #efc

Whatever the question, Andre Gomes is not the answer. No matter if this is a pen or not, he’s having a shocking game. #EFC
