Many Everton fans have been slamming a tweet from ESPN which showed the top five in the table with the caption ‘it’s tight at the top of the Premier League’.
The Goodison Park faithful are currently in a very respectable sixth spot in the table on 32 points, just one off of fifth-placed Spurs (Sky Sports), but ESPN decided not to include the Merseyside club in their graphic.
Will Everton win a trophy this season?
Given the caption, the Toffees should have been included as the next team below them is a further three points behind, and some Blues have looked at it as their side not being taken seriously in the title race.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men are currently only five points off of top spot where Manchester United are, and maybe as they are not seen as a traditional ‘big six’ club (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur), ESPN have only decided to show the top five teams.
Everton fan reaction to ESPN tweet
These EFC supporters slammed the graphic on Twitter, with one fan even going as far to say as it is a ‘joke’:
“I know we’re not really in a position to mount a title challenge BUT we’re within 3 points of the teams above us with a game in hand? Makes no sense for them to ignore us at all really…”
“We don’t count you see. Not one media outlet praises Everton it’s a joke”
“If we were fifth, they’d of just showed the top four”
“Even if we are third they will just show the top 2….. I once saw a table early season when we were first yet the table started from second”
“If we were 2nd they’d have said it’s a one horse race”
“Reckon if we win r next game they will tweet this exact tweet just with the top 2 tho”
